SUMMARY:Venice Design Week: October 1-9\, 2011
DESCRIPTION:Creativity\, Art\, Business\, Sustainability and an International Presence for the Second Edition of the Festival of Design in Venice\n  \nGet in on the Design Week in Venice\, the international event that brings exhibitions\, workshops\, meetings and above all creative and design firms to the floating city itself\, Venice. The theme this year is liquids & drawings or a combo of that as you can shimmy through interesting installation pieces\, competitions\, and tours of incredible palaces. There are even organized talks by leading players of modern design and architecture. \nThe DesignSpotter Company explains the essence by saying\,”The fact that Design has extended beyond its own boundaries of knowledge is not a momentary phenomenon. It’s strong roots are supported by many factors such as the increasing demand of projects on the emotive and sensorial areas in relation to concepts such as health and wellness. Another important factor is the use of design for public services and the relationship between man and machine.” \n \n  \nVenice Design Week is strongly committed to the history and culture of Venice. Therefore\, from the 1st til the 9th of October\, Venice is alive with events\, performances and events distributed in a variety of meeting spaces in the city. Many of the events will be held in multiple languages thanks to the international competition “Doing things | Article | Handcraft | Industry”\, where about 50 designers will be actively participating from around the world. The exhibition hall is in San Leonardo. \nThere is also a festival dedicated to children\, which will take place at the Gardens Greenhouse. Moderators will entertain and teach the children how to create toys\, jewelry and home decorations with objects that are thrown away\, instilling a seed of sensitivity towards the environment and sustainability. \nBetween the talks\, workshops and guided tours throughout the week\, Venice continues to be a hotbed of new ideas and projects\, such as the one born with the first meeting of the festival\, the network between Designweek of various Italian cities. \nFor more information\, check out: http://www.designweek.it/ \nSchedule of Events: http://www.designweek.it/images/stories/2011comunicati/calendario%20visite.pdf  (It’s in Italian\, but pretty self-explanatory.) \n  \n

SUMMARY:Venice Opera: Le Nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
DESCRIPTION:If you like opera\, get tix pronto for this event.\n \nLe Nozze di Figaro is the second part of the Mozart project of his trilogy on the texts by Da Ponte. This will be followed by both the revival of Don Giovanni\, with its original set\, and Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia at Teatro Malibran\, of which it is the narrative continuation of the original French source. \nA musical comedy in four acts\, KV 492 to a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte based on the comedy La folle journé ou Le mariage de Figaro by Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais (the second episode of the so-called Figaro trilogy)\, Le Nozze di Figaro had its premier at the Burgtheater in Vienna on May 1st 1786\, the first jewel of what was to be a lengthy partnership between Mozart and the Italian librettist.\nThe opera will be performed by a new production by Fondazione Teatro La Fenice with the very same names behind Don Giovanni: Damiano Michieletto production\, Paolo Fantin set\, Carla Teti costumes\, and Fabio Barettin lighting. The musicians are also nearly all the same. Once again\, Antonello Manacorda will conduct the Orchestra and Choir of Teatro La Fenice; Markus Werba and Simone Alberghini will alternate as the Conte di Almaviva\, Carmela Remigio is the Countessa\, Caterina Di Tonno as Susanna\, Alex Esposito and Vito Priante will alternate as Figaro\, Marina Comparato and José Maria Lo Monaco will alternate as Cherubino. \nThe premier on Friday 14th October 2011 will be followed by eight repeat performances. \nFor more information: http://www.teatrolafenice.it/dettaglio_spettacolo.php?IDSpettacolo=484 \nConcert Dates & Times: \n14/10/2011 –  19:00 \n15/10/2011 – 15:30 \n16/10/2011 – 15:30\n18/10/2011 – 19:00 \n19/10/2011 -19:00 \n20/10/2011 -19:00 \n21/10/2011 – 19:00 \n22/10/2011 – 15:30\n23/10/2011 – 15:30

SUMMARY:Acis and Galatea at Malibran Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Click here for full event details. \nThis “serenata” type opera originally by Georg Friedrich Handel is a pinnacle of pastoral opera in England. It was written as a courtly entertainment discussing the simplicities of country life but with a lot of wit and self-parody. This musical work was Handel’s most popular dramatic work with the first act being described as both elegant and sensual\, while the final act took on a a more melancholy and lamenting tone. \nHow to arrive: http://www.teatrolafenice.it/static/come_arrivare_malibran.php \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
